Twinstang back online [and faster]

Twinstang is back online now on my new hosting through slicehost. There might be a few bumps along the way, but generally things should run pretty smooth.

Instead of running on Apache and FastCGI like before, Twinstang is now running on a 512mb slice with nginx and thin server.

I am pretty impressed with nginx and thin already. The speed increase is significant and will prepare Twinstang for user growth. We are already at 28 users in our first few weeks! Thanks everyone!

Now I can start focusing on adding more features.

Twinstang Maintenance

I’m working on Twinstang tonight (upgrading its hosting) so the site will be down for a short while, and possibly down again in the morning.

I’ll let you know as soon as it is back up again though.

Twinstang now has a Flights page and Gravatars for user accounts

I’ve added a Flights page displaying all the flights not marked as private for users to view.

I’ve also added Gravatar images to your account. These really look good.

Check out the pictures.

motte_cms - new side app

I’ve created a new side application/project. It is a content management system, and I’ve made it freely available on github. Check out motte_cms.

I am now a Licensed Private Pilot

I passed my Private Pilot Single-Engine Land checkride this past Thursday. I am now officially a licensed private pilot. Woo hoo!

As such, I am now eager and ready to get back to work on Twinstang.com. I will be working on additional features to the application over this next week as well as refining current features.

Then after that, I will begin flying to different airports telling fellow pilots about the service.

Business cards on the way

I just ordered business cards for SpitfireSky. They should arrive sometime within 2 weeks. I decided to go with Moo through flickr. They are a different shape, very affordable, and I believe will look really good.

As well, I also purchased some for Twinstang.com.

You can check the designs out at http://flickr.com/photos/scottmotte

Twinstang notice

I won’t be making any additional updates to Twinstang over the next week. Unfortunately, I won’t have the time. I’ll be in Las Vegas for a golf tournament for the early part of the week and then be studying for my private pilot check ride at the end of the week.

I’ll be back on June 2nd to make additional improvements to Twinstang.

Twinstang in beta

Twinstang (digital pilot lobooks) is in beta. Essentially, it is your pilot logbook put online plus tons of extra features - search your logs, view statistics, export to csv, save as a pdf, and more.

Most significantly, it is iphone optimized so that you can add new entries to your pilot logbook as soon as you finish your flight.

It is currently free and there is a plan to have a free version so check it out.

HemetFlightCenter.com launched - small business site

picture-1.jpgWe’ve launched Hemet Flight Center’s new website! It’s was a very enjoyable project and Hemet Flight Center is very happy with the results.

Their former site was outdated in design and difficult to keep updated. We created a fresh, new design that evokes the sense and romance of flight. We also built in blog functionality, a blog subscription service, flickr photo integration, video embedding through youtube and google video, rotating quotes, and rotating flash images on the home page.

These are powerful tools and Hemet Flight Center is particularly excited by the prospects of their blog. They plan to offer free tutorials (eventually free video tutorials), safety messages, local flying news, flying tips, and much more. If you are interested in flying these guys are the guys to go to. Check out their blog at http://hemetflightcenter.com/blog/.
